Within the framework of the application of National Law No. 25,929 on Respectful Childbirth, our institution implements joint hospitalization, provided that the clinical condition of the newborn and the mother allow it. This approach focuses on the family, promoting the rights of the mother and the newborn. Joint hospitalization seeks to adapt the practices of the healthcare team to the family's schedule so as not to interfere with the natural development of the bond. It encourages early contact and the development of an appropriate attachment bond in the new family. It contributes to the gradual understanding and recognition of the newborn's needs. It creates a space for education, health, promotion of breastfeeding, and parenting guidelines.

Your admission to the Medical Center:

Once the administrative admission procedures have been completed, the mother and her companion are accompanied to the pre-delivery area on the 5th floor. There, they will be accommodated in a room where the medical procedures prior to labor will be performed. Subsequently, the team of professionals, together with the mother and her companion, will go to the delivery room or operating room, depending on each particular case. A professional from the Neonatology team will be present to receive the newborn, together with the team of professionals involved in the birth.

Birth occurred:

Once the delivery or C-section is complete, the mother, newborn, and her companion will be transferred together to a room on the floor, if the medical conditions of both allow it. There, the mother and newborn will be cared for by the healthcare team made up of neonatology and obstetrics professionals, nurses, and childcare specialists. The childcare team's role is to promote, protect, and provide support for the initiation and establishment of breastfeeding and provide general guidelines for raising the newborn.

During hospitalization:

In compliance with National Law No. 25,929 on Respectful Childbirth, Articles 2(h) and 3(a), our institution implements joint hospitalization when the clinical condition of the newborn and the mother allows it. This approach focuses on the family without unnecessary interference or separation, with interventions by the healthcare team according to the needs of each particular case, without rigid schedules, promoting care focused on the rights of the mother and the newborn.

Medical examinations of newborns are performed in the room alongside their family. With regard to pathologies detected during hospitalization, consultations with specialists may be carried out if necessary.

Newborns receive the Hepatitis B vaccine and the BCG vaccine during hospitalization in accordance with the official vaccination schedule of the Ministry of Health of the Nation. In addition, in compliance with the regulatory framework of the Neonatal Screening Program under the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, as provided for in Law No. 1808 of the GCA Bs. As., all newborns undergo mandatory neonatal screening aimed at early detection of six congenital metabolic diseases before symptoms appear, in order to provide timely diagnosis and treatment. These are: hypothyroidism, galactosemia, biotinidase deficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, cystic fibrosis, and phenylketonuria. 

Pulse oximetry tests are also performed to rule out congenital heart disease after 24 hours of life, and red reflex tests are performed to rule out eye diseases in newborns, such as cataracts and retinoblastoma, among others. and otoacoustic emission hearing screening is performed on an outpatient basis with the speech therapy team at our neonatal center within the first month of life.

Required documentation at the time of admission:

ID card, insurance card, and admission order. Please also bring any previous test results and serology from the third trimester of pregnancy, which will be requested by the medical team.

Requirements for admission:

When you are admitted to the hospital, you will be required to make a security deposit to cover any extra expenses that may arise and are not covered by your medical insurance. This deposit will be refunded in full if it is not used at the time of discharge.

Companion:

There are two options: if the accompanying person decides to use the hotel service (which includes bed making, towels, personal hygiene kit, and breakfast), they must pay a fee per night of stay; otherwise, the accompanying person can choose to stay without using the services, in which case there is no additional cost.

Information about admission:

Once the admission process is complete, you will be accompanied to a temporary room in the pre-delivery area where you will be prepared for the procedure and then taken to the operating room or delivery room. Subsequently, depending on availability at the Medical Center, you will be transferred to a room on the ward.

Items provided by the Medical Center:

Maternity Bag

It should contain a change of baby clothes for discharge, a hygiene kit, and diapers. For the mother, we suggest bringing the following items: a nursing gown, slippers, bandages, breast pads, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and a toothbrush, as well as comfortable clothes for discharge.

The Medical Center obstetric girdles if prescribed by a healthcare professional. These girdles are at the patient's expense and are not covered by their prepaid health plan.

REQUIREMENTS TO START THE REGISTRATION PROCESS:

 Married parents: 24 hours after the birth, the parent who is not hospitalized may attend with the following documentation: Marriage certificate and ID cards of both parents.

 Single parents: both must attend with their ID cards, after receiving obstetric and neonatal discharge.

Birth certificates will be sent to the sector within 24 hours of the birth. Parents may visit the sector from that moment onwards without an appointment.

IMPORTANT: The Medical Center has Medical Center involvement in the registration process for newborns. The ID card will be sent by mail to the address provided by the parents.

High:

Once discharge has been communicated, the patient and companion have one hour to vacate the room.
