Interventional Cardiology

We put our heart into what we do

Our interventional cardiologists focus on treating heart disease through minimally invasive procedures, using catheterization techniques and other specialized medical devices. They perform procedures such as coronary angioplasty, in which a catheter is used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, and the placement of stents, small tubular structures that are inserted into the arteries to keep them open and improve blood flow. In addition, they work closely with other cardiology specialists and physicians from other specialties to ensure that patients receive the appropriate treatment for their specific heart condition.

Areas of Focus and Studies:

  • Coronary Angiography (Coronary Artery Imaging):This is a diagnostic method that allows us to see lesions in the coronary arteries and decide on the best treatment. Our group performs more than 1,500 coronary angiograms annually.
  • Coronary angioplasty with stent implantation:This is a therapeutic method commonly used to unblock coronary arteries. Our group performs more than 900 angioplasties annually.
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI): This isa therapeutic procedure for aortic stenosis, in which the valve is replaced using a catheter. It is an increasingly common technique with a high success rate. Our institution has extensive experience, with more than 150 implants performed.
  • Valvuloplasty (balloon dilation): Mitral valvuloplasty is a therapeutic method performed on the mitral valve that allows surgical valve replacement to be delayed in selected cases of patients with mitral stenosis. In cases where aortic replacement cannot be performed for some reason, aortic valvuloplasty is an option.
  • Mitraclip implant:In selected cases where conventional surgery cannot be performed, mitral valve repair is performed using a catheter.
  • Aortic angiography: This is a diagnostic procedure that allows obstructions, dilations, or ruptures of the aorta and its main branches to be seen.
  • Peripheral angiography: This isa diagnostic procedure that allows obstructions, dilations, or ruptures in the arteries of the lower limbs, upper limbs, or neck vessels to be seen, enabling the best treatment to be decided.
  • Lower limb angioplasty: This is a therapeutic procedure that unblocks arteries in the lower limbs and, as with coronary arteries, allows stents to be implanted to prevent symptoms and amputations.
  • Endoprosthesis implantation:Therapeutic procedure used to treat pathologies of the aorta or its main branches when dilations (aneurysms) are present.
  • Renal angioplasty: Atherapeutic procedurethat, in certain cases, can treat and reverse high blood pressure.
  • Atrial septal closure: Therapeutic procedure that allows abnormal connections between the atria to be closed by implanting an occlusion device.
  • Atrial appendage closure: Atherapeutic procedurein which, in selected cases where the patient cannot receive anticoagulation and suffers from atrial fibrillation or flutter, the left atrial appendage is closed using an occlusion device.
  • Carotid angioplasty: Atherapeutic procedurein which, in selected cases, a self-expanding stent is implanted in lesions of the internal carotid artery. Our center has extensive experience, having performed more than 300 procedures.
