Everything you need to know about the dengue vaccine
Dengue is a viral disease that can sometimes affect your health, so getting vaccinated is important to prevent the risk of hospitalization.
The vaccine is approved for people over 4 years of age, and it is not necessary to know in advance whether or not you have had dengue before receiving the vaccine. In Argentina, only one vaccine is currently available, known as the tetravalent chimeric vaccine (Q DENGA), which provides protection against the strains circulating in Argentina. The complete vaccination schedule consists of two doses (0 and 90 days).
On the other hand, there are no studies that support its effectiveness after the age of 60. If you are older, you can consult with your doctor or infectious disease specialist.
The most common side effects are: pain at the injection site, headache, muscle aches, and fever. These generally begin 48 hours after administration and usually last less than 3 days.
The need for a booster dose has not been established. Protection lasts for at least 5 years.
The vaccine is contraindicated in
- Immunocompromise
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Allergy to any active ingredient
Finally, you should know that a doctor's prescription is required for the treatment to be administered. For more information, please make an appointment with us.
