Nephrology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the renal system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Nephrologists treat patients with a variety of kidney conditions, including chronic kidney disease, acute kidney failure, hereditary kidney diseases, autoimmune diseases that affect the kidneys, and electrolyte and acid-base disorders. In addition, nephrologists also treat patients with kidney complications from other diseases, such as diabetes.
