It is an imaging study that uses ultrasound to evaluate the size, shape, and structure of the thyroid gland, as well as the lateral cervical regions and their respective pathology. In some cases, the doctor may request that color Doppler imaging be added, which will allow the vascularization of the gland to be assessed.

During the examination, the patient will lie down on a stretcher and will be asked to extend their neck, where gel will be applied to the skin, allowing the structures to be assessed using a transducer. The results of this study will then be reported by the specialist physician.
