Hysterosalpingography is an imaging test that uses X-rays and contrast material to evaluate the anatomy of the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes.

During the exam, the patient will lie down on the examination table in the gynecological position. The doctor will insert a speculum and then administer iodinated contrast through the cervix, while taking X-rays from different angles of the pelvis. The study will then be analyzed and reported by the diagnostic imaging specialist.

INDICATIONS:

  • You should not be menstruating at the time of the exam.
  • You should not have vaginal discharge. If you do, you must bring a negative discharge culture.
  • Please inform us in advance if you have had any reactions to iodinated contrast media.
  • It is important to ensure that you are not pregnant at the time of the examination, so if you have any doubts, you can take a pregnancy test prior to the procedure .
  • It is recommended that you refrain from sexual intercourse the day before the test and for up to two days afterward.
  • It is recommended that you bring a gynecological dressing.
