It is a noninvasive imaging exam that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas.

MRI with iron measurement is a sensitive and accurate technique for detecting iron accumulation in the liver and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.

In some cases, IV contrast administration may be required.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Absolute contraindications for magnetic resonance imaging include:

 *Pacemakers and heart valves not specifically designed for use in magnetic resonance imaging.
* Cardioversion defibrillators.
* Neurostimulators.
* Cochlear implants.
* Internal irrigation pumps.

Currently, there are pacemakers, brain clips, and heart valves that are magnetic, and they must be properly evaluated before exposure to magnets.

Most implants and orthopedic prostheses do not have ferromagnetic properties and are compatible with magnetic resonance imaging.
