Gynecological pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses radiofrequency waves with high-resolution sequences to evaluate the uterus and pelvic organs (ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, and cervix). In some cases, an intravenous contrast agent may be administered to improve visualization of the pelvic structures.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Absolute contraindications for magnetic resonance imaging include:

 *Pacemakers and heart valves not specifically designed for use in magnetic resonance imaging.
* Cardioversion defibrillators.
* Neurostimulators.
* Cochlear implants.
* Internal irrigation pumps.

Currently, there are pacemakers, brain clips, and heart valves that are magnetic, and they must be properly evaluated before exposure to magnets.

Most implants and orthopedic prostheses do not have ferromagnetic properties and are compatible with magnetic resonance imaging.
