Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the internal auditory canal (IAC) is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses radiofrequency waves to assess audiovestibular symptoms. It is mainly used to diagnose disorders affecting the inner ear and auditory nerve, including tumors, infections, and congenital malformations. In some cases, intravenous contrast may be required.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Absolute contraindications for magnetic resonance imaging include:
*Pacemakers and heart valves not specifically designed for use in magnetic resonance imaging.
* Cardioversion defibrillators.
* Neurostimulators.
* Cochlear implants.
* Internal irrigation pumps.
Currently, there are pacemakers, brain clips, and heart valves that are magnetic, and they must be properly evaluated before exposure to magnets.
Most implants and orthopedic prostheses do not have ferromagnetic properties and are compatible with magnetic resonance imaging.
