High-risk obstetrics is a medical specialty that focuses on the care of pregnant women who have obstetric complications that may put their lives or those of their fetuses at risk. Obstetric complications that may be considered high risk include high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, multiple pregnancies, advanced maternal age, placenta previa, fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia, and premature rupture of membranes, among others.
