An esophagogastroduodenal (EGD) series is a medical test performed to evaluate the upper digestive tract. It is used to diagnose and treat various conditions affecting the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

During the serial EGD study, the patient undergoes an endoscopy. This involves inserting a flexible tube with a camera at the end through the patient's mouth. The tube is guided through the esophagus and stomach until it reaches the duodenum.

Our doctors can examine the lining of the digestive tract for any abnormalities, such as ulcers, inflammation, or polyps. Tissue biopsies may also be taken for analysis in a laboratory.

The study is performed under sedation or local anesthesia to minimize patient discomfort. It is a relatively safe and effective procedure for diagnosing and treating diseases of the upper digestive tract.
